A time and space project from June 2021 mixing together my performance on
music box and environmental sounds from my garden. The music box (which plays the tune,
You are My Sunshine – hence the acronym of the work’s title) is articulated at an extremely
slow speed, making it practically impossible to hear the original tune at the tempo it is
normally played at. The recording from the garden was transformed via computer
manipulation to alter the time and pitch characteristics of the performance, thus providing the
listener with an experience of a site-specific event taken out of its original context – the time
and pitch alterations revealing sonic details impossible to discern in the environment of the
initial act of sound art.
