The idea for DUOS & REMIXES came to me in early December 2020, at the height (or the depths) of the winter lockdown. The lack of opportunity to make music with others in person led to a decision to ask a wide-ranging group of friends in music and spoken word to send me something - anything - that was between 2-5 minutes that I could add something of myself to: hence the DUOS of the title. The nature of my contribution to each of the 36 tracks varies according to the submissions I received - a working process that led to the addition of REMIXES to the title of the project. In some instances, there is no conventional performance by myself; instead, I remix the original track: which leads to an interesting philosophical question of what constitutes a duo and what constitutes a remix - and the creative grey area between the two. That fascinated me - and continues to fascinate me - over the 13 months of the project and beyond.
